"Pongáio" was the name my Aunt Mona gave to a long, green, cool room where we gathered at her home —
replete with comfy chairs, a rocker, sewing machine, sewing goods, beautiful beads, shelves, books, bibelots, photographs, odds'n'ends, mementos of a life, treasures —
a gathering of all the useful & 'useless' things that so make life a pleasure.

"a moment in the heart is forever"

"During these last months, and during these many celebrations, I became aware of a refining of the energies, a revelation of who, among my own, would come along with me on the journey that begins now, and who would not. It was not a matter of who was the most temperamental or difficult, nor was it words or deeds that revealed their willingness -- it was simply a very clear signal that passed between us. I was surprised by some, saddened by others and comforted that the love we share will bridge the gaps of experience, that all paths lead to God/dess and that once we have welcomed another in, there is no escape -- a moment in the heart is forever."

"We are as prepared for all that's ahead as we have allowed ourselves to be -- and I think we will find it easier than we fear. In whatever way our holidays played out, we can recognize the hint of our blessings ahead and the last of our resistance -- tuck what's dear into your expanding heart, and as for the rest...take heed, rethink, forgive, let go. We've done all the "baggage handling" we need to do, now. There are creative opportunities ahead that can only be hindered by more of the same."

Christmas week

from Jonathan:
Your Week AheadHappy er.... Merry um... Well now, what exactly ARE we all supposed to be celebrating this week?
The baby Santa, born in a reindeer's stable at the time when the rising Sun changed direction along the horizon? The Jesus who turned over the moneylenders' tables so we could all run up credit card bills to celebrate his birthday? Is this Christmas? Xmas? Saturnalia? Or the Solstice?
Whatever it is, the planets suggest that, this year, more people may feel inclined to question convention than ever before. That's no bad thing.

Old Moon and Sister Stars

APOD - Astronomy Picture of the Day - 29.06.2006
Credit & Copyright: Vincent Jacques

Explanation: An old crescent Moon shares the eastern sky over Menton, France with the sister stars of the Pleiades cluster in this early morning skyscape recorded just last Friday, June 23rd. (Bright Venus was also near the eastern horizon, but is not pictured here.) Astronomical images of the well-known Pleiades often show the cluster's alluring blue reflection nebulae, but they are washed out here by the bright moonlight. Still, while the crescent Moon is overexposed, surface features can be seen on the dim lunar night side illuminated by earthshine - light from sunlit planet Earth. Of course, you can spot a young crescent Moon in the early evening sky tonight. Having left the Pleiades behind, a lovely lunar crescent now appears in the west, lining up with planets Mars, Saturn, and Mercury along the solar system's ecliptic plane.

A implosão da mentira

É um presidente que mente, mente
de corpo e alma, completamente.
E mente de maneira tão pungente
que a gente acha que ele mente sinceramente.
Mas que mente, sobretudo, impunemente...
E mente tão nacionalmente,
que acha que mentindo história afora
vai nos enganar eternamente.

Christmas time is near...

Alvin and the Chipmunks
Literaly, from the depth of Pongáio's ole trunks!!!

"The Alvin Show originally aired on CBS in 1961. This classic features the hit song that made the Chipmunks number 1!"

Linus and Lucy - Vince Guaraldi

Although a ... er... rather flamboyant personage, who even has a "tm" to his name, he's playing great rendition of a song I love, that brings back good childhood memories.

Happiness as Your Shadow

"We are what we think.
All that we are, arises with our thoughts.
With our thoughts we make the world.

Speak or act with a pure mind
And happiness will follow you
As your shadow, unshakable.

How can a troubled mind understand the way?
Your worst enemy cannot harm you
as much as your own thoughts unguarded.

But once mastered,
No one can help you as much,
Not even your father or your mother."

St. Cecilia, ... really?

I read someplace that Cecilia, Simon and Garfunkel's jolly tune, is based on Saint Cecilia... er... really?
Aaah... as in:
"The song does reference St. Cecilia and describes Simon's frustration with his muse leaving him and his jubilation upon her return"
(had this quote written down in a notebook... have to try and see from where I got it)

I always loved this song so nice to know not just about a flighty girlfriend, but about the artist's muse. And it's rhythm also goes along perfectly well with the rhythm of opening a can with and old fashioned can-opener!

                                        — Simon & Garfunkel

                             Cecilia, you're breaking my heart,
                             You're shaking my confidence daily.
Oh Cecilia, I'm down on m my knees,
I'm begging you please to come home.
                             Come on home

                             Making love in the afternoon
with Cecilia up in my bedroom,
I got up to wash my face
When I come back to bed,
                             Someone's taken my place

                             She loves me again,
I fall on the floor and I'm laughing
                             She loves me again,
I fall on the floor and I'm laughing

Cottage Love

I love cottages.
The tiny kind, not the Newportish giants.

Since a girl, I would save those little house plans and drawings at the end of the Country Living Magazine... the smaller the better.
I really, reeeeelly love little houses and cottages...

But, and a BIG BUT at that, I don't know if I'd actually (ever) manage to live in one:
too much" precious stuff "!

And... where would that dream deep-soaking-bathtub go? (Although, I think one of those could be fitted in)

I do have to go on a personal de-stuff-ing crusade... *sigh*

I'd love houses to be teeny on the outside and big on the inside, as I imagine Mrs. (Ma) Shoe's must be, to fit in all those children. Even stacked on kiddie shelves, a lot of room would be needed!

As not possible with the physics of this world (yet...?), I'll just keep collecting images and sighing over them.
Ah, yes! And slowly sending my preciosities (a.k.a the j-word, my s dear j-u-n-k) to new homes.

Drawing of There was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe by Kronheim, c.1875
There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.
                          She had so many children, she didn't know what to do;
                          She gave them some broth without any bread;
Then whipped them all soundly and put them to bed.

The earliest printed version in Joseph Ritson's Gammer Gurton's Garland in 1794 has the coarser last line:
She whipp'd all their bums, and sent them to bed.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22)
You are making a commitment in a relationship you don't know you're making, though I think you will like the results. There seem to be two processes of joining or union going on in your life: one that you're conscious of, and one that is rather cryptic, and which defies comprehension. You are more than aware enough to tune into both of them, though you may not want to, need to, or be curious. The results may be enough. Yet the deeper level of awareness, the emotional level, will give you a great deal of satisfaction if you allow yourself to go there. You do go there, by the way, when you dive in and question your motives and see all sides of the equation. You go there when you feel raw passion that is not connected to any specific vision for the world, but which you know on some level is driving you forward.

Scorpio New Moon

"Sabian Symbol by Marc Edmund Jones for this New Moon degree is: 'A woods rich in autumn coloring. This is a symbol of nature's high ministry of service to every function and purpose of individual living, and of the varying manifestations of a reality supported and brought to its genuine fruitage by the eternal and illimitable resources on every hand. There is here an exaltation of every ideal potentiality, dramatized in the form of inevitable and universal consummations of order and beauty. Life achieves its ultimate promise in a personal excellence, which may be found compounded a thousand-fold. The keyword is fulfillment.' "

Via Combusta

From Lunabar :

Moon in Via Combusta
Literally “the path of combustion,” the Via Combusta is a section of the zodiac regarded by the ancients as unfortunate, or challenging. The Moon in the Via Combusta tends to have a negative or disrupting effect.
Lunabar regards the Via Combusta as comprising 15° Libra through 15° Scorpio in the tropical Zodiac.

For November 2007

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22)
You may, for the moment, not quite understand where a certain person is coming from or the agreements they need to live by, but you do seem destined to find out. You also have a sense that they speak for a hidden dimension of yourself that you wish would be more directly available, but different people around us always give voices to different aspects of our psyche. In any event, he or she has adopted a viewpoint that on one level seems unusual and on another level involves exploring the most basic questions of relationship. Here is the central difference between you: for them, the experiment is the central reward. For you, there is beauty in the secondary reward or recognition. What you have in common is that you are both obsessed with living in an elegant way. The beauty factor is essential, and there is beauty both in balance and in the process of working out the adjustments and chemistry that lead to balance. Then comes that mysterious moment when something that has been created takes on a life and message of its own.

New Moon - 20:03

New Moon in Scorpio Friday, November 9, 3:03 pm PST, Thursday, 6:03 pm EST

The intense emotional force of the Scorpio New Moon usually drives feelings deep inside to scoop up pieces of the past and re-examine them in light of current circumstances. This time, supportive trines to the Sun-Moon conjunction from active Mars and revolutionary Uranus provide powerful motivation for letting go of old wounds, uncovering hidden resources, and applying them in new and different ways. Freedom from chronic emotional pain comes by following intuition and moving forward, rather than looking back and being mired in disappointment. Mystical Neptune's square adds a spiritual dimension that increases the capacity to forgive yourself and others.

The Quicksand of the Universe

"Star IQ's heads up on the day gave me a rueful chuckle:'Meanwhile, Venus forms a semisquare with the Sun, making us aware of how often relationships fall short of our expectations.' In my experience, expectation is the quicksand of the universe -- it will suck you down until you take your last despondent gasp. All hurt feelings seem to originate in that shifting, impossibly dense sandpit of ego-need. When we insist on something from another, we are coming from a place of self-interest; approaching another with our authentic feelings and desires is not the same as projecting our needs onto someone else to fulfill -- that's pretty much a contract for unhappiness, leading to manipulation, resentment, punishment and disappointment. Why is it that we think someone else can give us what we can't find within ourselves? The concept that has helped me grab a twisted vine and pull myself out of this kind of danger goes like this -- it is as much an error to take offense as it is to give it. Whatever has wounded you, blow it off, don't personalize it...and live to overreact another day.

Reviewing our expectations in relationships takes maturity and self-reflection, and in some cases, may be a deal breaker. It may be "time" to leave some old acquaintance behind. I'm talking about the kinds of relationships that are abusive, of course -- or the ones that are toxic to us. Be careful to properly assess that second, though...there is a difference between "finished" and "toxic." There appears to be a growing need within the human family to find our "tribe" -- and that's not a sociopolitical statement as much as a spiritual one. Last week's article prompted a reader to write in that the "I love you, but..." dynamic had brought her family into a kind of standoff from one another; they've found that time spent together has become too painful to tolerate. I'd suggest that you will find such a challenge in most every family in these quickly changing days."

Virgo and Chiron

Imagine Chiron's orbit piercing the ego-boundary of Saturn. It plunges into our reality like the comet that it is, often guiding, prodding or stunning us to awareness -- always gently first, then in escalating degrees. Like Virgo and the 6th house, Chiron brings the message be here now. Stand in your true nature. Be who you are. Remember that you are part of nature and cannot escape from it. For those accustomed to living a life of escape and diversion, this is not always a pleasant message, but ultimately it both sets us free, and leaves us free to do what we came to the Earth to do.

Strange Bedfellows (2004 film)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Strange Bedfellows is a 2004 Australian film starring Paul Hogan and Michael Caton as heterosexual men who pass themselves off as a homosexual couple in order to get financial benefits from the government. A very similar plot was later used in the American film I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.

We saw the remake Saturday night. I laughed alot: the gags elevated to the riduculous, some excellent.
I do prefer, though, Paul Hogan's original.

New Moon in Virgo

--- StarIQ
Tuesday, September 11, [09h44 aqui; 12:44 GMT]

This New Moon in Virgo is an explosive Solar Eclipse opposed by electric Uranus while assertive Mars and expansive Jupiter form tense right angle squares to the Sun-Moon conjunction. Nerves are easily rattled by surprising events and pressure builds if we try to keep the lid on a situation that is bound to change. This is earthquake energy that will release unresolved tension hidden below the surface.
Volatility in personal matters or worldly events is best met with faith, forgiveness and imagination, as the integrating North Node in Pisces shows that the way to fulfillment is through spirit, not matter.

A Wrinkle in Time

‘Wrinkle in Time’ author L'Engle dies at 88

When I read the title of the article (linked above), I rememebered right off the bat the name of the author, Madeleine — something a bit remarkable nowadays with my memory usually soooo bad.

Together with the name, a flood of girlhood memories, of being immersed in books, and this one of my favorites.

And it's funny, because just the other day, the image of the scientist mother cooking dinner in her lab, much to the dismay of some of her family, came to mind, and I was trying to remember from which book it came...

Oh, my Saturn!

Saturn changed signs over the weekend - your forecast today looks at what that means for your sign - read it, mull it over and see if you can act on it. Saturn is a demanding planet but the rewards he brings for good behaviour last and last.

It's your responsibility to... be a success!
Wherever Saturn goes, lessons follow. Now Saturn is hanging out in your solar work success? zone offering you the chance to define and forge ahead in your working life if you know that you need to. Saturn can bring fear and if he does, he challenges you to rise above that fear. Are there aspects of your public and professional life that have you worried? If that's the case, Saturn's objective is to remind you that it's hard work which brings rewards.
This is a year when you realise that you only need to take one step at a time in order to climb the career ladder. And one where you realise that it's the effort you put into your work which bring the rewards you crave. But don't be duped into working just to maintain a lifestyle. Try and look to your work for professional satisfaction as well as financial rewards. Saturn in this part of your chart can urge you to out do your past efforts to help you get ahead.
Yasmin Boland

The Skies They Are A'Changin'....

The Skies They Are A'Changin'....
There is SO much going on in the skies right now, it's hard to know what to mention first! We are about to go into the eclipse season with the Lunar (Full Moon) Eclipse on Tuesday, followed by the move of Saturn from Leo to Virgo, and then the New Moon (Solar) Eclipse on September 11, if you don't mind.
Of course it will affect everyone differently but it could be summed up by saying that there will be brakes going on and brakes going off in different parts of our lives. Something starting and something ending. A lot of room for change. Stay tuned and ask God and Goddess to help you want the right things for you.
--- from Yasmin Boland

Friday, August 31, 2007

Virgo is the sign of the Goddess. The Goddess could be described as the living spirit of earthly existence, rather than of celestial. The Goddess is about experiencing life in the moment, in a holistic way: for example, experiencing sex and love as aspects of one another rather than as mutually exclusive; about experiencing food as a gift from the planet we walk on; and experiencing physical life as sacred, rather than being the "enemy" of whatever we think of as divine.

Like nothing

Jonathan Cainer:
Like nothing on earth...
They now tell us, with a straight face, that out in deep space, experts have discovered a billion miles of nothing. Sorry. I know I have already written about this. Still, though, I can't quite manage to stop thinking about it. Nothing. Nothing? Nothing we recognise, perhaps. Nothing we can detect, fine. Nothing doing. Nothing happening. Nothing to report. Nothing to write home about. But surely, there can't be absolutely nothing at all? And why 'a billion miles'. This may sound like a lot, but I rather feel it's not big enough to be convincing. Surely, nothing lasts forever!
Jonathan Cainer´s Zodiac Forecasts
SAGITTARIUS (Nov 23 - Dec 21)
A patch of nothing, one billion miles wide. Scientists have just discovered it deep in distant space. It begs an interesting question. How do you measure nothing? And what kind of nothing is it? Nothing much? Nothing to write home about? Nothing special? Nothing at all? A billion miles? That's not nothing, that's something! By the way, you know that problem that you need to get to grips with this weekend? The best thing you can possibly do about it... is nothing.

Beauty for the soul, after a looong, tiring day!

"For those who enjoy good photography...
On January 26 in Perth, Australia, a crowd gathered a a local beach to see a fireworks show.
Suddenly, to the right, a lightning bolt fell.
And, between these two manifesttions of light, there was a third: the McNaught Comet, visible in the southern hemisphere.
A true three-in-one that resulted in this fantástic photo:"

Nothing to do?
Nothing to do?
Put some mustard in your shoe,
Fill your pockets full of soot,
Drive a nail into your foot,
Put some sugar in your hair,
Place your toys upon the stair,
Smear some jelly on the latch,
Eat some mud and strike a match,
Draw a picture on the wall,
Roll some marbles down the hall,
Pour some ink in daddy's cap ---
Now go upstairs...
... and take a nap.

Transiting Mercury Conjunct Natal Uranus

Weird and unusual thoughts may cross your mind. Brilliant ideas pop into your head. Just think twice about blurting them out. Others may be shocked or thrown off guard by your comments. Your head's just not in the same place as the rest of ours. But, this is your chance to make perceptual breakthroughs and get out of the old mental box. You can learn or just intuitively know new stuff in the flash of an eye. Discipline and focus may be difficult, so stay flexible and keep your schedule and your thinking as open as you can.

In addition, other influences can add complexity to the day.

Transiting Mars Square Natal Pluto

Intense feelings may not be easy to hide now. The challenge is finding the best way to express them without going too far. Whoever may be making you angry is only the trigger, not the real cause. Look within far enough and you may find some core issues about power and control that are the real culprits. You can use this time to overcome incredible obstacles. Just make sure that these are the real obstacles that you want to move. Focus your activities to the most essential, and your force can be like a laser able to cut through anything.

Smart to Stupid

Neptune, Achilles and also Chiron are in Aquarius. This represents the crisis of groups and individuals meeting one another. It is easy to take several very smart people and have it become a very stupid group.

Shakespeare's Tide

Today, "at home".

Early today, went to the lab to take out blood for exams.
As of the forties (my forties, that is), high anxiety while "The Search for the Vein" goes on; then an almost unbearable tension while awaiting The Needle!
Which, when it happens, all comes down the reality:
it doesn't hurt much, and what was the fuss all about?
How tiring!

Then, back at home, clearing out The Box in the Stairwell...
There, waiting patiently, only since the move — what, nearly a year ago? — for it to be done.

As I'm in a clearing and cleaning phase, best use Shakespeares's tide, so, besides the Stairwell, I'm also emptying The Box in the Corridor!!!

It has stuff from my "office" drawers... an absolute terror... dreadful!
I've tried to tackle this sinister, as my young nephew Christopher would say, petainer, several times but was totally daunted by The Contents.
Writing paper, stationery sets, loose envelopes, bits of paper That Will Be Useful Someday... and those terrible Little Odds'n'Ends, that are impossible to throw out!!!

I definitely would be a flunk-out of those Just-Throw-Your-Precious-Stuff Out courses!

Forgiveness Prayer

Dear Father-Mother-God,
You, who reside in us,
Your name is spoken
only in our hearts,
We recognize that what you wish,
We ask of your bounty
that you wish for us:
Food for our body,
Forgiveness for others and
Love for all your creation.

Perdôo sinceramente quem me rejeitou, me odiou, me abandonou, me traiu, me ridicularizou, me humilhou, me amedrontou, me iludiu.

Jamais voltarei a me queixar, falando sobre mágoas e pessoas negativas.

The Attic

Got home and had lunch...

This morning I continued with the pharaonic undertaking of creating a space with my atelier things; organizing, cleaning and then throwing out, the trillions of boxes and things that are in the 3rd-floor deposit, put there on the move from the big apt to the teeny  one.
Doing domestic arqueology, unearthing the precious relics!!!

Tomorrow if there are no contretemps, I hope to go at it all day...
Who knows, mayhaps the box with the files from the top drawer of my file cabinet will arise from the box-ocean — I do need some files from that drawer!
Up until now, I have found the boxes with the middle-drawer files, and today, the bottom drawer's! I think the mover's evil genie is playing with me!!!

Probably, the food from yesterday's lunch. Delicious, but fats-plus...
I'm already on my second cup of pitanga leaf tea, from the pitanga tree I have growing in a pot on my veranda. (pitanga leaf tea is a divine remedy for belly-ache-blues!)

Nausea&intestinal colic is first cousin to seasickness:
Even the name causes a certain suffereing: ... naaAUusea... ... naaaAAAUUUuusea...

The only thought is to die quickly to get out of that living, sickening, hell...
And once over, one simple dosen't know what the fuss was all about!
It is like childbirth, or at least mine...
Unbearable at the time; but one survives. The auto-delete then comes on, and we go on to have one or two more!

Sunday at last!

We have a lunch appointment although I'd much rather stay home and have a nice lazy Sunday...
But, yes I know, it'll be interesting once there.

Yesterday, class all afternoon and into evening with Rosane. Sooo much information! I think it'll take a while to get it all digested!
After class, I walked a bit to find a taxi. The evening air was great, a delicious coolness on my  face. The walk bouyed my already high spirits.

Once home, I invited Hubbie out for a movie. We went to see an action movie that he likes, full of suspense, chases and those cars that have self-exploding gas tanks!
Going to the movies was something we hadn't done in ages; the last times the audience had been just too noisy. This time, it was way better behaved.
All in all, a good time.

1024 MB!
That's how much "space" that we have for free to upload images!!!
They will be saved on Picasa
As the Blogger Help: Picture Posting FAQ says:
"What does this cost?
Free! Photos in blog posts for free! Go nuts people!"

I'm not one to do ads, but compared to the restraints of before... heaven!

Good Morning!

Still here; the blog, that is.
So, Good Morning!

I think I'll stay here at Blogger... although the domain doesn't appeal to me.
After all, blogSPOT sounds like something you have to remove quickly from the uphostelry before it sets in!

But it'll be fun to play with html code again in setting up a personalized template.
This one, Scribe, is already pretty nice — fantástico compared to the gawdawfull ones supplied at the other blog server.

... images

From what I understood, a giga for images, saved at someplace-Picasa...
Can that be right? All that for images? That is an improvement from the allowance before!

... formatting posts

Basic formating for the posts easier:
text color easy...
fonts alsoif of pre-chosen 7; these must be the "safe" ones...
sizes...  size size size size size
sizes... smallest size  small size normal size large size largest size
An Uh Oh!: no diference on the published page between smallest and small... something in the template?

... and other interesting stuff

... new tools *sigh*

Hmmmnnnnnnn... lots of new stuff here at Blogger, compared to the "old" days...
and my patience to learn oh-so-very-very-short…

Back to Blogging

Today I decided to put into action my desire to get back to blogging. This wish runs hot-cold, or rather, warm-cold...
I'd like a blog, but not anything that becomes another responsability! (or gives me any headches!)

I made the new blog at Weblogger, but...

I made this new blog here at Blogger also... at weblogger images aren't being uploaded!
I've always had some problems with weblogger, so I guess I'll just stay here.
